Kima High School recognized by Mayor
Kima High School was recently recognize by DC Mayor Anthony Williams for academic excellence, for this the Mayor gave the school fifty thousand dollars ($50,000). Also recently it was reported by the Washington Post that Kima High School, who is currently overseen by DC Board of Education. Report stated that students at Kima are making adequate yearly progress in math and reading, this assessment is done yearly in April. "Go Hawks" and keep up the good work.
Arledge nominated to All Met Team
Hawk's Jonathan Arledge was nominated as honorable mention All Met by Washington Post Writers. Arledge made history by being the first DC Public Charter Student to ever be considered for the All Met team. Arledge also participated in the Capitol Hoops All Star game, click here for details. Additionally, the Kima Hawk Varsity Basketball team received media attention from area writers, the Hawks is the only team this year to defeat four (4) teams in the Washington Post writers top twenty (20) poll. The Hawks defeated Ballou (DCIAA Champs), National Christian Academy, Hylton and Gwyn Park. Coach Brown, said "this was indeed a major accomplishment and honor for our program."
Hawks advance at 2009 Rock League
Hawks advance to final at the Rock. The Hawks defeated McNamara of the WCAC on a last second shot by Senior guard Jada Johnson. Johnson confident called out his own play and scored on a drive to the hoop to lead Kima to one of its biggest wins in school history. The Hawks will take on powerhouse Dematha tomorrow for the Rock League Championship being held at High Point High School. The game is scheduled to start at 7pm.
